Microsoft has been gunning for another massive acquisition. After their big takeover of Zenimax Media, the new focus shifted to Activision Blizzard. The purchase would add some heavy-hitting titles under their control, including Call of Duty. Unfortunately for Microsoft, the acquisition of this company has been anything but smooth. However, if this deal does end up going in their favor, don’t expect any significant change regarding the Xbox Game Pass subscription service’s rising price.
Thanks to a report from Tweak Town, we’re finding out a new court document has surfaced during this whole fiasco with Microsoft trying to acquire the company. I’m sure you’re likely aware that Microsoft has been going through the ordeal with regulators to showcase why this purchase wouldn’t harm the industry. Meanwhile, you have voices from Sony who suggest that this exact purchase would damage the industry and Sony itself tremendously.
However, while the courts and regulators are still sifting through the mess, one document has suggested Game Pass’ current price models will be intact even if this deal goes through. Right now, the base tier for the Game Pass service is just $10, which gives you access to first-party Microsoft titles and a slew of third-party games. However, you could go up one more tier to the premium Game Pass experience. That gives you everything from the base tier, along with extra features like EA titles, PC platform access, and cloud streaming.
But according to the document, even if the acquisition comes through, then there are no immediate plans to see these prices rise. In fact, we might see Microsoft do well just from the number of sign-ups to use this service. After all, you would get a nice collection of games added to the mix. Included would be Call of Duty titles, especially the games that launch new, so that’s an instant saving right there to enjoy the latest games without paying for them individually.
Again, we don’t know if this service will end up seeing these games added to the mix. Microsoft is still seeking the purchase of Activision Blizzard. Currently, there are regulators like the CMA that are being appealed after initially striking down the acquisition. However, if the deal does go through, then don’t anticipate the immediate price hike. It could be quite a long time before Microsoft decides to adjust the price for Game Pass.
