The PlayStation Showcase was held earlier today, and with it came several video game announcements. One of the titles highlighted for fans was a title by S-Games called Phantom Blade Zero. This upcoming hack-and-slash RPG was shown off and looked to bring on another action-packed samurai-like experience.
Thanks to the PlayStation Blog, we have a little bit more insight into this game and are learning that this is actually a spiritual rebirth to Rainblood, a former smartphone game. Now don’t expect too much information right now, but from what we know so far, this game blends cyberpunk with Chinese Kung Fu. In this game, you’re stepping into the role of an elite assassin named Soul. Working for a powerful organization known only as The Order, Soul is framed.
Someone has taken the life of the Order’s patriarch, and you’re to blame. Fatally wounded, Soul manages to survive only through the help of a mystical healer. Unfortunately, the cure is not something to keep Soul going forever. Instead, he only has 66 days to live. That would give him enough time to hunt down whoever is responsible.
But don’t expect this world to be forgiving. We’re told that all sorts of powerful enemies can even take the shame of some inhuman monstrosities. Another aspect that you might note is that this game is coming from developers who have spent over a decade developing games for the smartphone. As a result, they are taking their lessons learned and applying them for this upcoming release. For instance, players can expect more simplified controls to avoid the mindless button mashing or complicated combo moves some titles might force you into remembering.
We still have to wait for more information to make its way out to the public. But while we wait for the developers to further showcase the game and just when we can expect it to release, there is the debut announcement trailer you’ll be able to check out right above. Again, we don’t have a release date we can attach to this game just yet, but when Phantom Blade Zero does launch into the marketplace, you’ll be able to find it available on the PlayStation 5 console platform.
