Eagle-eyed NeoGAF user miladesn has uncovered a new trademark filing from Square Enix that could indicate that a new Kane and Lynch game is on the way.
The application, filed two weeks ago with the European trademark authority, reveals that the publisher is looking to use the phrase "Sleeping Dogs" in relation to video games, books (a category that includes strategy guides), and online game services.
Those classifications rather unequivocally point to an unannounced game, and the most likely culprit is a new entry in IO Interactive's Kane and Lynch franchise. The last game in the series was subtitled "Dog Days," making "Sleeping Dogs" a fitting candidate for the next game's subtitle.
Kane & Lynch 3 was first rumored in September of last year, when IO Interactive posted a batch of job listings that referenced a "yet unannounced 3rd person game with strong cooperative multiplayer elements." As Kane & Lynch is their only franchise that fits that bill, it was widely believed that the developer was preparing to ramp up work on another sequel.
