Dead Rising hasn’t had a major release since 2016, so it might be time to bring it back from the dead. Capcom has had quite the roll with Resident Evil remakes, and it looks like this studio is interested in tapping back into another undead franchise of theirs. According to one industry insider, we might see the IP get a big revamp and another attempt to hit players worldwide on the latest generation of console platforms. Of course, since this is just from an industry insider, we’ll have to wait for the official word to come out before we can take this report as anything more than a rumor.
The news came from industry insider Jez Corden. On a Twitter thread going over the news of a Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake potentially being featured in an upcoming PlayStation showcase, Dead Rising came up. One Twitter user noted that they were pushed to Xbox for the Dead Rising franchise. That’s when Jez noted that Dead Rising might be coming up on the horizon. Jez went on to say that he heard it was a reboot but that it’s just something he has heard right now. Unfortunately, the industry insider doesn’t have anything else to make the news a little more concrete.
For those who might not be as familiar with the franchise, Dead Rising started in 2006. Since then, several installments have been added to the marketplace with new protagonists, features, and settings. But the main component of this franchise that set it apart from the other line of undead zombie titles was that Capcom leaned more toward humor. The narratives and characters were more comical, while weapons were more makeshift. As a result, you were encouraged to pick up melee weapons, whether a frying pan, baseball bat, barbell, or even using a lawn mower.
With the last mainline installment being Dead Rising 4, which launched in 2016, this supposed reboot would be the first installment to be launched on the latest-generation console platforms. Furthermore, it would be interesting to see if Capcom returns to the series and delivers a similar installment to the first Dead Rising video game. At any rate, since we don’t have any official word from Capcom on the matter, we’ll just have to wait and see if this IP gets unveiled during the upcoming stream video game showcases in June.
