Star Wars Jedi Survivor Will Get Patches Across Platforms For The Next Few Weeks

April 27, 2023 by Ryan Parreno

Respawn definitely knew the game wasn’t quite ready for launch date.

EA has officially confirmed that they would be patching Star Wars Jedi Survivor to handle the game’s multiple issues, starting on launch day.

They shared this statement on Twitter:

“Cal’s newest journey in a galaxy far, far away has begun and we’re excited for you to experience it!

Our first patch will arrive on launch day across all platforms. In the weeks ahead, we’ll deploy patches that will:

– Fix bugs

– Improve performance

– Add more accessibility features

Stay tuned for more updates! #StarWarsJediSurvivor”

That statement seemed to be scheduled and worded carefully a day after launch, to get ahead of fans who they already expect to react accordingly to the game’s current state.

While we just reported that SkillUp found issues with the game’s performance on PC, it turns out that those issues come across the board on all three platforms, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

As Video Games Chronicle reported, they also found major performance issues on the PlayStation 5 version that they reviewed. In this review, they stated that:

“In the game’s open area, the frame rate, even in the game’s performance mode, was worryingly inconsistent. Screen tearing was a regular occurrence, and level of detail pop-in was a regular issue.”

It seems clear now, unfortunately, that Respawn wasn’t quite prepared to finish polishing up the game’s performance just in time for launch. It seems that EA knew about this too, but made the decision to push forward with the release nonetheless.

Part of the reason for pushing through might have been that the game seemed good enough in spite of the spotty performance to warrant high review scores.

In fact, it may surprise you to learn that the Guardian, and many other outlets, gave the game perfect scores. That is also across multiple platforms that the game was on.

At least, this seems to be a situation where the performance issues, in spite of clearly being there, where not bad enough to take away from the other aspects of the game.

In any case, if you are a stickler for 60 FPS performance, your only option is to wait it out until EA and Respawn confirm that they have fixed performance issues in the game. You will want to keep an eye out which of the three platforms gets that fixed first so you can start enjoying the game as it should be. No word on how long you will have to wait.
