Silent Hill 2 Remake Updated To “Coming Soon” On Steam

April 6, 2023 by Ryan Parreno

Hard to tell if Silent Hill fans felt they waited too long or not too long at all here.

Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 Remake may not be that far away from release.

As reported by Game Rant, the Steam listing for the game has been updated to say COMING SOON. A quick check at that Steam page at the time of writing this confirms that it has been updated to now indicate the game is coming soon.

Well, if you are one of those fans eager to see this game come out, none of this should really be a surprise to you.

At the end of March, Bloober Team sought to do some damage control on an interview done in Poland and translated to English. Translations of that interview indicated Bloober Team’s CEO Piotr Babieno saying that Silent Hill 2 Remake was technically ready.

That situation seemed to be a case of the CEO speaking too candidly without the studio’s knowledge. Nevertheless, it’s easy to put all these little tidbits together and come to the conclusion that Bloober Team is definitely close to finishing the game.

We ourselves will not make any hasty predictions on when Bloober Team will announce Silent Hill 2 Remake’s release date. Bloober will likely still do the customary game testing on top of main development to make sure the game doesn’t launch broken.

But, it is a good indication that Silent Hill fans could see their dreams fulfilled soon. I won’t be repeating myself here in detail on how fans had been looking for a remake or remaster of Silent Hill 2 Remake for years.

But the last time Konami tried to produce such a rerelease for Silent Hill 2, it was so poorly executed that fans stuck to playing the original game, any which way they can. But in 2023, it is asking a lot to still be playing a PlayStation 2 release.

It probably also makes sense if Konami had planned for Silent Hill 2 Remake to be their initial salvo in bringing back the Silent Hill franchise in a big way. Remember, Konami has not only planned more video games on the way.

They have a new film with French director Christophe Gans, called Return to Silent Hill, on the way. With all these in motion, Konami has positioned the Silent Hill franchise to be a potential big moneymaker for their immediate future. It’s certainly an unlikely comeback for a franchise that had to contend for attention in between the Metal Gear and Castlevania franchises.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is planned for release on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.
