Creative Assembly has released a new trailer for its upcoming real-time wargame, Total War: Warhammer, which is set in Games Workshop’s popular Warhammer Fantasy setting. As with any Total War game, players can expect to play a variety of factions and wage war against their enemies.

Today’s trailer showcases the Master Necromancer, who summons undead minions to do his bidding and bolster the ranks of the player’s army, having them fight on his behalf.

Necromancers embrace the dark magical arts, exchanging their humanity for the ability to raise the dead and decayed and commanding them to wage war against the living. These madmen have, as the description suggests, made this pact willingly as a means to an end–power over all.

“At the heart of each Necromancer’s morbid obsession is the need to subjugate and punish those who have persecuted him in the past, regardless of the cost,” reads the description.

“As a man follows the dark path of the Necromancer, he becomes ever more detached from his mortal roots. Morbidly questing after the secrets of death, a Necromancer deeply steeped in the lore of the dead stands on the threshold between worlds, neither wholly alive, nor one of the Undead. His body twisted with unholy power, his mind seared by the horrors he has witnessed, a Necromancer often has more in common with his lurching, moaning minions than with the living he seeks to slay…”

The Master Necromancer leads a host of minions in the Vampire Counts faction, the roster of which can be seen below. The faction was revealed a few days ago.

Total War: Warhammer comes out on May 24, 2016 for the PC.

Legendary Lords:

– Mannfred von Carstein – Caster/Melee (Race Leader) (Lore of Vampires/Lore of Death) o Faction-wide trait: ‘Ancient Cunning’ – With Mannfred as your leader, all of your armies will move more swiftly on the campaign map and units of Grave Guard and Black Knights cost less dark magic to maintain.

– Heinrich Kemmler – Caster (Lore of Vampires) o Faction-wide trait: ‘Lichemaster’ – Having recognised the limits that mortality placed upon him in his early years, Kemmler made it his life’s work to escape them. If you choose Heinrich Kemmler as your Legendary Lord, the cost of raising dead is reduced and Necromancers are cheaper to maintain.
