Battleborn, the newest game from Gearbox and 2K Games has just gone gold. “Going gold” means that it’s now getting mastered and sent out to manufacturers for packaging and distribution. Any further development on the game will have to come in the form of online patches as the material on the disc is code complete.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford announced the game’s status on Twitter, and added that more work will continue on the game for its beta and post-launch content.
The game is slated for release on May 3 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. It will see the aforementioned beta take place a short while before the game’s launch, which will debut on the PS4 before moving on to other platforms.
Battleborn is primarily a multiplayer shooter with RPG-like elements that allow players to unlock items and other stuff while partaking in challenges throughout the game’s various modes.
Pitchford previously described the game as Gearbox’s “biggest investment ever.” In a world of endless sequels and franchise additions, Gearbox is taking a huge risk with Battleborn, an all new IP that it hopes to make as successful as its Borderlands games.
“We’ve invested more than Borderlands 1 and 2 added together into Battleborn, and we don’t even know if people will be interested or not,” stated Pitchford.
We previewed one of the game’s modes last week, so be sure to check that out. If you’re interested in the game, be sure to sound off in the comments.
