There’s some speculation on the possible release date of upcoming Bethesda Xbox Series X|S exclusive, Starfield.
Jez Corden, speaking in the XboxTwo podcast, has stated that he believes Starfield will be releasing this June 2023. Jez clarifies that he was not given a date or release window by his sources. Rather, this is his prediction based on the information he has, including what his sources have told him. Jez is also willing to bet that Starfield could be released after June 2023.
Jez’s sources have previously claimed that Starfield is already at a state where it is playable from start to finish. This suggests the remainder of the work is polishing up what they have built to a state where it is worth releasing as a $ 70 retail game.
Jez also addressed online retailer CDKeys giving Starfield a release date of March 23, 2023. He believes that CDKeys merely added a placeholder date to their listing. Their delivery method for Starfield keys would have been the Bethesda Launcher, which would not have given them that information ahead of anyone else.
Finally, Jez’s sources told him that Bethesda has not yet set a release date for Starfield themselves. This suggests that there are enough variables that haven’t been narrowed down that would make the studio certain how long it will take them to finish working on the game before they can release it.
For what it’s worth, we know at least these things for sure about Starfield’s release, based on official word from both Microsoft and Bethesda.
We know that Arkane Studios’ open world multiplayer shooter Redfall will release before Starfield. Redfall’s release date has already been set at May 2, 2023. We also know that Starfield will be releasing on the first half of 2023, which places it sometime before June 30, 2023.
Putting these together, it is reasonable to guess that Starfield would be releasing on June 2023. While this gives the game a window of release between May and June, one would guess that Microsoft would want to spread their release dates apart. That way, Redfall could get as much attention as it needed for more or less a month before Starfield arrives. Spreading them apart also means they can both make as much revenue for Microsoft as possible.
Or maybe Starfield is trying to get away from The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom? Or will Microsoft try to release it before the FTC lawsuit for Activision Blizzard King? The way fans have been speculating online, these are just as likely factors in Starfield’s release as anything, which is to say, nobody really knows. But you can be sure to confirm Starfield’s release date when we confirm it on Gameranx.
