Dead Space Remake Developers “Interested” in Continuing the Dead Space Franchise

February 6, 2023 by Odhran Johnson

I don’t think Dead Space fans could have quite predicted how well the remake of the 2008 classic was going to perform. After the lukewarm reception of the series’ spiritual successor, The Callisto Protocol, all eyes were on EA Motive ahead of the Dead Space release on January 27th, 2023. It’s fair to say that the EA studio surpassed players’ expectations and innovated on elements of the original game that felt outdated but also retained the pure horror and mystery that fans loved about the original title. With players now having had over a week with the game many have been asking for EA Motive to tackle further sequels in the series including Dead Space 2 and the less-than-loved Dead Space 3.

If you fall into the camp of avid Dead Space fans eager to know what’s going to happen next, EA Motive’s senior writer, Joanna Berry, took to Reddit in an Ask Me Anything with some comments that are sure to excite.

We’ve said both internally and externally that we’d be interested in continuing our work on the Dead Space franchise… Our core group is passionate about the brand and we need to discuss what’s the right next step for us. There’s numerous factors that need to be taken into account at a studio and company level, but first, the team will take a well-deserved vacation before determining what’s next.

Joanna Berry – Senior Writer at EA Motive

Whether this means they’ll use Dead Space as a starting point and continue with Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3 is still not confirmed but we can only hope. The development cycle of Dead Space only took EA Motive about 2.5 years according to a member of the development team. In the AMA developers were quick to say they were glad they didn’t “f*** this [Dead Space] up.” Senior Producer Phil Duhcarme noted:

From a dev team perspective, there’s an incredible amount of pride at what has been delivered and what we accomplished… User scores, Metacritic, press headlines have been great, but also validation that, you know, we didn’t f*** this up in the eyes of the DS Community and devs of the original game.

Phil Ducharme – Senior Producer at EA Motive

I think everyone is very happy that Dead Space lived up to the hype and somehow managed to even surpass the original on a number of levels. A Dead Space 2 remake would be greatly appreciated so hopefully, we see that at some point in the future but until then it’s time to get back to Dead Space and finally beat its Impossible difficulty!
