Insider Claims Marvel’s Wolverine Game Will Be “Hard R” Title

February 2, 2023 by Todd Black

When Insomniac Games announced they were making a title based on Spider-Man, fans were excited. That excitement paid off as their title was one of the best superhero games ever, and by a wide margin. They also did a successful spinoff game through Miles Morales that was equally as successful. While fans wait for the true sequel to those two titles to come out this year, another game is in the works by that dev team. Marvel’s Wolverine was given a very small tease a while back, and since then, we’ve heard nothing from the team about the title.

However, that doesn’t mean there’s no new information to be had. According to insider Jeff Grubb from GiantBomb.com, he’s heard that Insomniac aims to launch the title in the fall of 2024. However, it should be noted that other reports state it’s more likely to come in 2025. Both can be true for now as game development cycles grow or shrink, depending on the process they go through.

Another key detail he noted was that the title would go for a “Hard R” style feel. That would align with the beloved movie, “Logan,” starring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. If that is the game, then you can expect Wolverine to be slicing and dicing up foes left and right and not caring about the violence he inflicts on others. Again, that would be very in line with his comic book counterpart.

To that end, Grubb also states that the game will be the opposite of the first Spider-Man title in that Wolverine won’t be with the X-Men when we meet him. The game will instead take place before he meets that team. That means, should the rumor hold, that the title will be solely about Logan and that you shouldn’t expect any team-ups with the X-Men.

That doesn’t mean other mutants won’t show up in the game, as Logan’s history has him on teams before he met with the X-Men. It’s just you won’t see him with his iconic teammates.

One last piece of information is that, unlike the other Insomniac titles, Marvel’s Wolverine won’t feature an open world. Instead, it’ll have open parts of the world. That likely means that Wolverine will be traveling from place to place, and he’ll be able to explore those areas fully.

Take all of this with a grain of salt until Insomniac Games reveals more, which hopefully will be soon as fans want to see/hear more from this upcoming title.
