Valve Reports 100 Percent Sales Growth For Steam, Swims In Money Like Scrooge McDuck

Things just keep looking better and better for Valve, with Valve reporting that Steam has seen a 100 percent sale increase for the seventh year in a row.

Valve announced today that it’s 2011 year-over-year sales saw a 100 percent increase. Steam hosts over 40 million accounts and 1,800 games, and as we’ve previously reported, Steam also saw a peak of over 5 million users simultaneously online at once.

Steam also dished out over 780 petabytes of data to users in 2011, which more than doubles the amount delivered in 2010. Either I’m getting old or that’s a hell of a lot of data, because this is the first time I’ve ever heard of a petabyte.

Gabe Newell (speaking from his giant pile of money) has also promised more free to play titles will be coming to Steam for those of you who can't pick something they like out of the 18 that Steam already hosts.

No news on Half Life 3, but I’m sure you can find a way to make those numbers add up to a Half Life 3 confirmation.
