Randy Pitchford Has Strong Faith With Borderlands Movie

It’s become a bit of a cringe when a video game receives a film adaptation, as there are few exceptions where a film based on a video game was done well and kept the integrity of what the original developers put into the production. So naturally, fans of the Borderlands video game franchise likely had some slight concerns as to seeing Borderlands would be receiving a film adaptation. However, if you talk to Gearbox Software CEO, Randy Pitchford, he’ll tell you that he’s not worried about the film thanks to the producers of the upcoming production.

Randy Pitchford spoke with Gameindustry.biz in which he talks about the struggle of bringing out a franchise to a wider audience beyond fans within the video game industry. This question came up with the folks at Gearbox Software as they searched for a means to expand the franchise of Borderlands.

I’ve got these brands – Borderlands for example – but I worry that we’ve reached a ceiling with how many folks that we can reach in the video games [space]. I think there’s a lot more people out there that would be excited about such a premise if they only knew it existed. And so the question is how do we reach people outside of the folks who we’re already talking to in the video game space?

The answer to their question was expanding to the film industry. Gearbox Software is currently in a deal with Lionsgate and Arad Production to create the Borderlands film. While some video game films prove to fall between the cracks of success, Randy Pitchford has good faith in Ari and Avi Arad as they helped bring out Marvel comic books for a film adaptation. Some of the Arad Productions include X-Men, Spider-Man, and Iron Man.

As it stands right now, there is no indication as to when this production will begin filming nor has there been any announcements as to the cast. Furthermore, Gearbox Software has been developing the third main installment of the Borderlands series though details on that front are just as scarce.
