January is nearing its first week’s end, so we’ll soon be getting some brand-new games to play in 2023. There are many titles that fans are looking forward to in January, and many are coming out on Nintendo Switch. The Switch’s biggest release of the month is easily Fire Emblem Engage. The title has been known about for months, and Nintendo has slowly been teasing the game, its story, its characters, and how you can play it with the new mechanics. With it being so close to its release date, more previews have also been coming out.
One Nintendo insider was so excited about this that they talked about the previews online and recapped what they were saying about the game. Previously, they noted how the gameplay for Fire Emblem Engage was fun and fresh thanks to new ideas like the Emblem Rings. But at the time, we didn’t know how the story played out.
New previews have arrived and said that the game’s story is solid, though possibly not as strong as the previous game’s tales.
Given that Three Houses had four different story paths that featured many different characters and focuses, it’s understandable that the newest title isn’t able to match that in some way. However, as the insider notes, the story is strong in certain ways, and the gameplay still plays incredibly.
It also should be noted that, unlike the last two mainline games in the series, Fire Emblem Engage has a more “classic” storyline. In the title, you play Alear, the last in a line of dragons who have been asleep for 1000 years. They’re awakened when the Fell Dragon, the ancient enemy of Alear’s family, is close to being reborn.
Now, Alear must venture across the land and find the Emblem Rings so that they can be reunited and give Alear and his allies the power to stop the dragon once and for all. As we said, a more classic storyline, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a lot of depth and nuance in the title. The insider revealed that the previews only went up to Chapter 8. The games in these series typically tend to go 20 chapters or beyond, so there’s plenty of room to show some shocking twists.
Either way, the title is looking like a solid first game to play in 2023, and you only have to wait until the 20th to get it.
