The Ratchet & Clank reboot coming for the PlayStation 4 has been rated Everyone 10+ by the ESRB.
This reboot is both a remake of the original 2002 Ratchet & Clank game that launched the franchise, as well as the official tie-in video game to the upcoming Ratchet & Clank film by Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment. The film itself recounts the events of the first game, when Clank first recruits Ratchet to stop Chairman Drek’s nefarious plan to build a new planet for his species, the Blek, by destroying other inhabited planets. However, the film expands on the story, and incorporates some later characters, such as the Galactic Rangers. The remake follows suit, adding new gameplay elements on top of what was originally available.
The ESRB rating notes that it contains animated blood and fantasy violence. Ratchet and Clank save the galaxy from an evil villain, using cartoony weapons to defeat aliens and robots. Enemies that are defeated turn into nuts and bolts or green blood-like splashes before disappearing. You can read the rating synopsis yourself here, but fans should be satisfied that this reboot will prove to be action-packed family-friendly entertainment.
Interestingly, the original 2002 release of Ratchet & Clank received an ESRB rating of Teen. However, in the subsequent HD rerelease of the same game under the anthology, the ESRB gave it a rating of Everyone 10+.
Ratchet & Clank will be released exclusively on the PlayStation 4 this April 12, 2016. You can check out the first trailer for the reboot here, and watch a PlayStation 2 version versus PlayStation 4 version comparison here.
