The Division Gold Edition, Worth It After $20 Off?

March 8, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

PC version of The Division gets price cut while console gets bonus for Gold Edition.

One day left before the launch of Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy: The Division and if you’re looking to finally fork over the cash for the game, should you buy the Standard Edition for $60 or go Gold for $100? If price is being the main factor, PC gamers have a case to upgrade to Gold with a $20 discount surfacing.

The $100 Gold Edition of The Division is simply the $60 base game plus the $40 Season Pass added together. There are 20% discounts available at a few retailers on the Standard Edition for all platforms, but what you won’t find is a discount on the Season Pass. That means if you buy the Standard Edition, you’ll find it as cheap as $48, but you’re stuck paying full price for the Season Pass making a total of $88. Buying the Gold Edition at a discount will save you an additional $8 with a drop to $80.

Gold Edition Discounts

  • GMG discounted to $80 (PC/Uplay)
    After using code: PRELOAD20
  • Best Buy has a discount to $79.99 available (PS4/Xbox One)
Bonus of $10 rewards card. Need GCU for $80 price, which you can add to cart during checkout

Two notable retailers have $20 discounts on the Gold Edition of the game: Green Man Gaming and Best Buy. GMG’s deal is open to all PC gamers offering a 20% off promo code slashing the price to $80 (or an equivilant 20% off if you buy outside of North America). Best Buy’s discount is the best way to save if you’re a console gamer BUT has a huge caveat – you need to be a Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked member ($30 2-year membership). GCU is a pretty nice deal if you buy a lot of games over time, but even if you elect to buy through Best Buy without GCU, you’ll still get a $10 bonus towards My Best Buy Rewards, netting at least some sort of bonus.

Note: Normally you can get a similar 20% discount to Gamers Club Unlocked on Amazon if you’re a Prime member. Unfortunately Amazon is sold out of physical Gold Edition copies, and only selling full price digital codes. Those do not qualify for the 20% Prime member discount.

Standard Edition Discounts

  • Green Man Gaming discounted to $48 (PC/Uplay)
    After using code: PRELOAD20
  • Best Buy is full price of $60 (PS4/Xbox One)
Bonus of $10 Best Buy rewards certificate, GCU eligible for 20% off
  • Microsoft is also full price of $60 (Xbox One)
Bonus of $10 Xbox One gift code (sent via email)

Not convinced Gold is the way to go? There are Standard Edition deals available in abundance for both PC and console gamers alike. The only downside to console gamers is the price breaks are going to requires a paid membership to get. That said, it’s at least good to know what’s out there.

Should you pull the trigger and buy the Gold Edition or keep it minimalist and go Standard? Well, everyone’s different. If you’re looking at just the numbers Gold with a $20 discount makes sense. That said the Season Pass content will not be playable on Day 1, so there’s no hurry to get that Season Pass.

If you want to play it safe buy the Standard and determine first if it’s worth buying the $40 Season Pass. If you’ve played the Beta or are a hardcore fan maybe go all in and save $8.
