Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the most anticipated games of 2023, and while most fans had expected to see and learn more about it at The Game Awards last week, that never came to pass. That said, not all hope should be lost that we’re going to get to see more of it in the imminent future – an interesting listing on the PlayStation Network has provided reason to think that PlayStation, despite not bringing the game to the recent Geoff Keighley event might have some other plans in mind for the hotly anticipated 2023-bound epic from Insomniac Games.
The internet was set alight today when a listing for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 suddenly popped on the PlayStation Network. The listing was picked up by a range of accounts including the ever-reliable internet sleuth Wario64 whos shared the full listing from the UK PSN store, and pointed out that a new trailer for the film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is due to be unveiled tomorrow December 13, inferring that there was a chance that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 might show up as well tomorrow. There were no details provided in the listing, providing us with no detail beyond what has already been shared by PlayStation and Insomniac Games themselves. Insomniac Games’ Community Director, James Stevenson was quick to share the news as well, asking players to “Click that wishlist and follow button!”
So far, beyond the one trailer that debuted in 2021 alongside the reveal of Marvel’s Wolverine, the only detail we have about the game is the most generic of posts directly from the games’ website, which reads “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the next game in PlayStation’s critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise. Developed for the PlayStation 5 console in collaboration with PlayStation and Marvel Games.”
In a PlayStation Blog listing accompanying the announcement in September 2021, Insomniac’s Ryan Schneider said,
Much of the development team that brought you Marvel’s Spider-Man is returning to produce Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, including Bryan Intihar (creative director) and Ryan Smith (game director). Today’s game footage trailer is merely just a glimpse at what’s in store in terms of the new abilities our heroes will acquire, suits they will wear (more on that some other time), and the villains that will try to hunt them down. And speaking of villains, did you catch that final line at the end of the trailer? We’re so happy to announce that Tony Todd (of Candyman fame) will be voicing the symbiote-fueled Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. We’re also delighted to welcome back Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter, who will reprise their roles as Peter and Miles respectively. We’ve been fortunate to work with so many incredibly talented actors in our Spider-Man games, and Tony has been such a wonderful addition to the cast.
And that’s it, that’s all we have, but the listing certainly reignites hopes that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is on track to launch in 2023 as advertised – now let’s see if we’ll soon be getting fresh footage.
