Two sources are are independently confirming that Beyond Good and Evil 2, long believed to be canceled, is slated to become a Nintendo NX exclusive.
Both sources say the sequel’s working title is Beyond Good and Evil: The Prejudices of Philosophers. Nintendo itself contacted Ubisoft and Michael Ancel with the idea of funding the game, and making it an exclusive for them.
The idea seems to be similar to Bayonetta 2. Like Bayonetta 2, many fans are clamoring for a Beyond Good and Evil 2, but publishers seem unwilling to take a chance on it. The first Bayonetta and Beyond Good and Evil games were both critically well received, but did not perform as well in sales.
Beyond Good and Evil cast you in the role of Jade, a martial artist and investigative journalist. Jade uncovers a global conspiracy involving human trafficking and ancient aliens. Gameplay was a combination of puzzle solving and stealth missions, as Jade pieced together the clues that would lead her to the heart of the conspiracy, as well as her role in it.
Beyond Good and Evil was originally released for PlayStation 2, Gamecube, Xbox, and Windows in 2003. In 2011, an HD version was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Michael Ancel has sporadically shared updates through the years regarding Beyond Good and Evil 2. He gave assurances that it remained in development throughout 2012 and 2013 here, here, and here. He even shared concept art for Jade’s new look in 2014. However, later that year Ancel revealed plans to found and independent studio, and in 2015, the rumor spread that Ancel and Ubisoft agreed to cancel it comepletely.
