Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Patch Fixes Lightning Item Ability

December 8, 2022 by Todd Black

I will glide no matter what!

When you’re playing a game like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, there are certain things you need to be aware of if you want to come out on top racing-wise. First, you must know how to control your kart and get it down the track in the fastest way possible. You must understand the course and obstacles it’ll throw at you. Finally, you need to grasp the variety of items you will encounter from other players that can prevent you from achieving victory, ones like banana peels, bombs, the infamous blue turtle shell, and more. Each can be devastating when in the right person’s hands.

However, the thing that can easily frustrate players the most is when an item strikes at such an inopportune time that it makes the game seem broken that you can’t recover without a complete reset onto the track. One such situation was when players would use the lightning item on the track. On its own, the lightning item strikes people, makes them spin out, and can shrink them. Unfortunately, you’ll also lose the items you have in the process. It’s a very powerful item; thus, you rarely get it. But when you get it, you can even the odds instantly.

That alone doesn’t break the game. However, if you happen to be in the air when you get struck, floating around the area per the rules of the track, the lightning used to strike you down and make you drop your glider. That would force you to plummet and enact a reset that would set you back further. Many considered this a broken element of the game. But now, thanks to the recent patch, that situation has been rectified, as you can see in the tweet below:

That player got struck by lightning twice while in glider form and was fine. So that “bug” is now no longer an issue. It wasn’t the only thing added to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe through the new patch. The third wave of the Booster Course Pass was added, so now you have eight new tracks to take on. There is also a new option where you can pick and choose what items are in a given race you’re in. That will add options and variety to the matches so you can ensure that it’s fair all around.

So go check out the game with these updates and see if you get the racing fever once more.
