As Rust quickly approaches its ninth anniversary on December 11th, 2022 a new quality-of-life update has been released by the game’s developers Facepunch Studios. The latest update introduces over 90 new “improvements and fixes” across the entire game. A second update is set to drop on December 11th, 2022 as the team at Facepunch Studios celebrates the ninth anniversary of Rust. That update will include a birthday cake and hats for one day only.
While the September update added the game’s hardcore mode, making the already difficult game even more unforgiving, this update addresses some more general issues with the game. The latest patch includes tweaks to the game’s UI scaling, a “debris system” to make raids fairer for raiders, an increase in HP for armored doors, quality-of-life changes to combat, and a lot more. Players might also be familiar with the “casino” cabooses added to the game in the previous update. In the latest update, a static train caboose has been added to the outpost. So if running and gunning aren’t your styles you can now consistently engage in Poker, Slots, and Blackjack.
Some weapons have also received some modifications in the latest update. One of the developers of Rust, Helk, noted that the LR and MP5 had seen less usage since the recoil changes. They said that players opted more than not to pick the AK over the LR. With this in mind, the team has decided to add inbuilt burst modules to both the MP5 and LR. Alongside this, they’ve also made adjustments as to how Slug ammo works in-game. These changes were implemented to make the weapon less effective at long distances. Slug now only does 50% damage at distances over 40 meters instead of 75% at 80+. However, Slug shots now do 100% damage between 0-20m as opposed to 0-10m
Rust was originally released into early access in 2013 and wasn’t fully released until February 2018 on PC. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports of the game made their way to consoles in May 2021. The title has enjoyed a steady stream of players since its release with it blowing up at one point on Twitch. It still maintains a pretty steady streamer base with the brutality and unforgivingness of the title likely drawing new players in. The main aim of Rust is simple. Gather resources, set up shelter, craft weapons, and survive for as long as possible.
Rust is currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
