Risk of Rain is officially coming to both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita after an announcement was posted by Duncan Drummond, co-founder of Hopoo Games LLC, via the PlayStation Blog. Originally released back in 2013 for PC, the developers behind the roguelike platform title revealed that gamers who pick up Risk of Rain on the PlayStation consoles will be greeted with a few new exclusive elements revolving around the multiplayer aspect of the game. Although, at this point, there is no indication when gamers can get their hands on the Sony PlayStation ports.
Overall, the story of Risk of Rain follows a passenger that survives a space freighter crash. Landing on a strange planet, players are forced to explore the randomly generated world, collect items, and kill off the in-habitat monsters. As mentioned, this platformer has a few roguelike elements that will make the gameplay challenging. Featuring permadeath, players will scavenge for items but if killed, all the items players were carrying are dropped, causing players to start over fresh.
Another neat feature tossed into Risk of Rain is how the developers played with time. If players are searching for items too long then the monsters within the world will become increasingly stronger. This ultimately makes it a tough decision on whether to continue on your search for items which will help progress your character or risk losing it all by a significantly harder combat encounters.
Exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, developers have noted that players can join into an automatic matchmaking lobby with a press of a button which will also grant multiple local co-op players to join into an online lobby. Additionally, it was announced that cross-platform support will be available for both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
