Rockstar has announced that Grand Theft Auto III: 10 Year Anniversary Edition will be coming to the App Store and Android Marketplace next Thursday, December 15 with a price tag of $4.99.
While Rockstar technically missed the real tenth anniversary back in October, this commemorative re-release is a rather slick tribute to the title that single-handedly created a genre back in 2001. The Anniversary Edition features every last mission, hidden package, and polygonal prostitute from GTA III, reimagined with new touch-screen controls.
Sadly, the rather daunting technical challenge of porting a PS2 game to mobile devices means you won't be able to play GTA III on just anything. On the Apple side of things, you'll need an iPhone 4 or later, a 4th gen iPod touch, or an iPad, while the Android version works on quite a few newer phones and tablets. Here's the full list:
Phones: iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, HTC Rezound, LG Optimus 2x, Motorola Atrix 4G, Motorola Droid X2, Motorola Photon 4G, Samsung Galaxy R, T-Mobile G2x
Tablets: iPad, iPad 2, Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad Transformer, Dell Streak 7, LG Optimus Pad, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1, Sony Tablet S, Toshiba Thrive
