Ubisoft Confirms Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Is Not Cancelled

November 7, 2022 by Dennis Patrick

Don’t write this remake off just yet.

We have seen several games over the years now get a proper remake. Those iconic classics are given a fresh coat of paint and sent off for veteran players and newcomers to enjoy. However, there is one remake that fans have been waiting on for a couple of years now. Back in 2020, Ubisoft had a stream event called Ubisoft Forward. During the event, we had the big unveiling of a Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake announcement. Unfortunately, the development cycle has been somewhat troublesome.

Ever since the remake announcement, there were fans vocal about the game’s visual presentation. Unfortunately, it wasn’t up to the fan’s standards, and that eventually caused the game to get pushed back as the studio continued to work on the project. That was mainly the last we had heard about the remake, and it left some fans wondering if Ubisoft was pulling the plug on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. However, that’s not the case, as we finally have an official word on the matter directly from Ubisoft.

The company took to its website today and released an article explaining that the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake is not cancelled, but is currently in development at Ubisoft Montreal. Unfortunately, that’s all we know right now, as a release date has yet to be set for the game. As a result of not having a release date, Ubisoft has cancelled all existing pre-orders for the game where applicable. So if you noticed your pre-order was cancelled, it’s simply due to the lack of a current release date right now. Pre-orders might open up again when the studio has a release date announcement.

If this anticipation has caused an itch to play other Prince of Persia games in the meantime, don’t get your hopes up on any additional remake announcements. Ubisoft has stated that there are no plans to remake any other Prince of Persia games. That could change down the road, but right now this might as well be considered a one and done for Prince of Persia remakes.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see just what the future holds for the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. After all, there could be a change to what platforms this game will release on as the initial unveiling had confirmed the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms. Perhaps we might see a pivot to the latest-generation console platforms or a cross-generation release.
