Square Enix may have dipped beneath the surface over the past year—the successful release of Deus Ex: Human Revolution notwithstanding—thanks to the abysmal reception towards Final Fantasy XIV and several of the publisher’s other big name games.
The company appears to be making an attempt at a comeback with an all new RPG that’s set in neither the Dragon Quest nor Final Fantasy franchises. Whether it remains to be an experimental attempt like Last Remnant or worse—Infinite Undiscovery—remains to be seen.
Judging from the newly released artwork of this as-yet-unnamed title, the game appears to be targeting a Western demographic with its Gothic, Van Helsing-like setting. The image depicts an owl, a sword, and a castle (as noted on Kotaku) with a character who looks a lot like Van Helsing, as portrayed by Hugh Jackman.
Square Enix is seeking developers for the game, which it describes as a “New Action RPG” on its recruitment page. It currently has 35 hands on deck.
