Cross overs are great! Titles like Marvel vs Capcom, DC and Mortal Combat, Alien vs Predator… but is Hello Kitty and Street Fighter one of them?
No, seriously. According to FTC, there’s some news coming out of San Diego that Sanrio and Capcom will be teaming up. While there’s no news of any games in the future, the duo will be teaming up to collaborate on a line of Street Fighter inspired Hello Kitty merchandise in the Fall of 2011.
“Capcom has long admired Sanrio and their ability to create memorable and cherished lifestyle brands so it is a distinct pleasure to partner with them for this new cross-over line of merchandise,” says Joshua Izzo, Capcom’s Director of Licensing. “The combination of Street Fighter and Hello Kitty will offer fans a whole new way to experience our characters.” Considering Sanrio have built an empire on Hello Kitty and her friends, Capcom has gone to the right place for merchandising opportunities.
This raises questions about what else Sanrio and Capcom might work on together if this Street Fighter line goes well. Super cute Ace Attorney, Devil May Cry or even Resident Evil merchandise, maybe?
I’ll be holding out for a Hello Bison cellphone cover in the meantime.
