For better or worse, gamers like to look at review scores for upcoming titles because they help “paint a picture” of the game. Or, at the very least, they can get a “guess” of the quality of the title. Given how expensive video games are nowadays, it’s fair that they want some insight versus going in on hype alone. After all, hype can instantly disappear if the wrong thing is in the game. Given all the recent controversies with Bayonetta 3, you can also understand why gamers wanted to know whether it was worth getting or not. According to official reviews, the answer is yes.
At the time of this posting, the aggregated review score for Bayonetta 3 is 89. That’s incredibly high, and that comes from 62 critic reviews. Sixty of them were in the “positive” category. We’ll let you read the reviews you want, but we will talk about some of the things that some of them said.
ScreenRant, for example, said that the game was the best action game developer PlatinumGames had ever done. That’s an impressive statement, given all the ones they’ve done in the past, including the two previous titles in this series. VG247 called it one of the best games on the Nintendo Switch, another impressive label to put on it. Gamespot couldn’t help but praise the titular Bayonetta and note that this “pop star” was well worth the wait in her return. VGC loved the style of the game, and its wit, stating there is no other game that can match it.
More reviews are sure to pile in soon, but even if the score gets lowered to an 80 overall, that’s still an incredible score for what appears to be a fantastic game. That will be a relief to gamers because we really have been waiting a long time for this title. It was first announced in 2017 at The Game Awards, and many thought we’d get the game soon due to that. Then it disappeared, and we didn’t get an update for a very long time. Once we got that first trailer, it was clear the team at Platinum had been working on something extraordinary, and we just had to be patient a little longer.
Now we’re a few days away from release, and these review scores will make the anticipation harder to endure. But if nothing else, these prove that a fun “romp” awaits us. Based on the recent trailers, a lot is going on in the game’s plot. Plus, we have a brand-new character to control in Viola, who has a vital part in the story to come.
So be ready for when Bayonetta 3 launches on the Nintendo Switch on November 28th. It’ll be an experience to remember.
