Fire Emblem Engage was announced at the most recent Nintendo Direct after being rumored for some time. The title was even said to have been finished for over a year! We’re not sure that’s true, though. Either way, the game has many fans of the series excited. Mainly because the visuals for the game look crisp and colorful, the plot seems unique, and the concept of summoning past Fire Emblem characters to help you out is fun. Although it’s one that fans will be familiar with due to a particular mobile game. Since its announcement, smaller videos have been released detailing the characters confirmed for the game so far.
For example, the main character of the game is Alear. A person whose gender you’ll choose at the beginning of the game has been asleep for 1000 years and awakens when the Fell Dragon returns to the world. As part of a particular royal family, it’s their duty to help lead the charge to stop the Fell Dragon again.
Oh, and yes, they totally look like VTubers. It’s hard not to notice!
As for the allies that Alear will have at the beginning of the game, there will be Vander. Vander is an experienced knight, a trope of the franchise, who battles with an axe on horseback. Then, there are the twins Cramme and Framme, the two might be twins, but they’ll play very differently. Cramme is a mage, making him an excellent long-range threat with his magic. Framme, on the other hand, is a monk who can both attack with her feet and heal people with her staff.
Then, there’s Alfred, another knight on horseback, but he is of Noble blood. What’s more, he wields a lance in battle. His sister is another part of your party. Her name is Celine, and she wields both a sword and magic to give you options on the battlefield.
Keeping things going, Louis will be your “heavy armor” character, perfect for defense and stymying non-magical enemies. In the trailer, we glimpse Chloe, a Pegasus Knight, a class with very high movement. The last original character from the trailer is Etie, an archer, another classic type from the series.
As noted earlier, Fire Emblem Engage will allow you to summon heroes from past titles to help you in specific ways. This time, they’re called “Emblems,” and they’re summoned through unique rings. Each one has a different stat and ability boost they give to players.
For example, Marth is the first Emblem shown off, and whoever wears his ring will have higher evasion. Then there’s Celica, who will grant players better magical stats, so put her ring on a mage.
Finally, there’s Sigurd, whose ring seems to boost the abilities of horseback riders.
More announcements will come as we get closer to the January 2023 release date!
