GameStop is being sued by employees over mandatory security checks.
The class-action suit is being taken out by a former employee on behalf of all individuals employed by GameStop on an hourly bases who have worked from June 21, 2010, to present.
The main concern of the suit is over mandatory security checks and searches, which GameStop performs on employees before breaks and at the end of shifts. Many are unhappy with these searches, feeling they cause GameStop to fail to provide uninterrupted and unrestricted breaks, which are required by California law. According to the complaint, hourly employees are not paid for the time spent undergoing these security checks.
The suit also makes several other allegations concerning employee compensation, including failure to adequately compensate employees for work shifts exceeding eight hours, and failing to provide itemized wage statements.
The suit, other than seeking class-action status, is also seeking compensation in the form of an hour’s pay for each day adequate breaks were not provided, as per California law, as well as any damages that may be found by the court.
