Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Receiving Fan Remake

February 15, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has never looked so good thanks to this current fan remake!

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic may arguably be the best Star Wars title to release into the market. We can sit and argue about which Star Wars title tops each other and it’s all perspective but with a Metacritic score of 93, this RPG that takes players over 4,000 years before the events of the first Star Wars film where both Jedi and Sith are great in numbers, really has received quite the critical success. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic receive the now common HD enhancements that most popular titles receive, which leaves the visuals pretty lackluster compared to its big debut in 2003. Luckily a group of developers who are fans of the title have decided to give Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic the royal treatment with a remake using Unreal Engine 4.

The remake is titled as Apeiron which according to the developers, Poem Studios, this is a remake and remastering of the original title that will have added bonus content ranging from new worlds, missions, HUD, inventory, items, and companions, all of which is under the Unreal Engine 4. While Poem Studios is based out of Atlanta, Georgia, any developers and programmers who are interested in working with the project are free to apply.

Now most often than not, we see all kinds of video game fan remakes popup and there has been a tendency of the various IP owners, in this case, Disney, going around and putting an end to these awesome fan made projects. According to the Apeiron website, the developers have nothing to worry about as they are not taking anything monetary in return for the video game which would have been a big issue with Disney. That means when this Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake officially launches, it will be completely free for gamers to download.

Donations, on the other hand, will be accepted to help out with the development process although at this current time, the developers are not asking for donations. Instead, Poem Studios have noted that they will not receive any monetary backing until a large portion of the game is finished and polished. Just how much of the video game is developed or when the title will be released is unknown at this moment but you can keep updated on the very latest by checking out the official Apeiron website here.
