It appears that going free-to-play has saved yet another MMO, with DC Universe Online’s revenue going up 700% since making the switch.
John Smedley, President of Sony Online Entertainment, tweeted the figures recently and also revealed that more than 85% of log-ins are that of returning players. According to Smedley, the revenue is split between the two platforms, with 47% for the PC version of the game, and 53% for the PS3 version.
DC Universe Online, which made the leap into the world of free-to-play on the 1st of November, has also enjoyed seeing their player base grow 6%. Smedley reports the two most popular purchases are additional character slots and the Vanguard of the Heavens character skins.
While initially unstable and faced with long ques on P2P servers due to unexpected server overloads, it seems the MMO is finally raking in the benefits of making that first taste a free one.
