Xbox Launches New Lunar Shift Wireless Controller

October 11, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

The snazzy-looking design was first leaked a few weeks ago.

After it was spotted on Twitter towards the end of last month, Microsoft has now officially revealed its latest new wireless controller for Xbox Series X/S. The Lunar Shift Special Edition wireless controller has been unveiled in a new post on the Xbox website and it looks pretty unique in design.

The Xbox Wireless Controller Lunar Shift Special Edition controller has been designed around space-based themes and is said to be “inspired by fantastical gaming worlds.” The colour-changing style of the controller itself is the main draw, with Xbox Accessories Senior Product Marketing Manager Daniel Ruiz explaining that the Lunar Shift is the second controller in the Shift series of designs. The first of these was the Aqua Shift Special Edition Xbox wireless controller, which looks to have taken its design from the oceanic worlds in gaming.

As explained in the new update, the Lunar Shift’s main feature is its shimmering colour-shifting style. Light and motion will have a unique visual effect on the controller, which shift its hues from silver to gold when the light hits it in the right way. This gives it a “stylized, smokey atmosphere” that those who love all things celestial will particularly enjoy. In addition to this snazzy sliver and gold vibe, the new controller also has rubber grips as well as rubberized triggers, bumpers and the rear casing, all of which feature black and grey swirling patterns to compliment the night-sky stylings of the overall look.

As with other Xbox Series X/S wireless controllers, the Lunar Shift is Bluetooth-enabled for connectivity with a number of additional devices and will also connect to Xbox One consoles for those who don’t have the current-generation Xbox. It also works with Windows 10 PCs and mobile devices, and players can customise their button mapping as they see fit by connecting the controller to the Xbox Accessories app.

Players can get their hands on one of these stylish new controllers for $69.99 on the Microsoft Store and at select local retailers around the world. For those who want the full Lunar Shift experience, Microsoft has also partnered up with accessories and peripherals company Razer. Together they’ve created a Lunar Shift style Universal Quick Charging Stand, which interested players can also pick up on the Microsoft store for $49.99.

This is the latest Xbox Series X/S controller to be confirmed by Xbox after a leak. Most recently, the Xbox Wireless Controller Mineral Camo was leaked online before being launched officially by Microsoft shortly afterwards. It seems that Xbox knows when it’s onto a winning series of designs, with the Mineral Camo being the latest in a number of camouflage-themed controller designs. Now with the release of the Lunar Shift, we may see further entries into the visually-striking Shift series as time goes by, depending on its popularity and sales, of course.
