Super Mario Maker, the little level-editor-turned-surprise-hit released by Nintendo last year, is a very popular game, and with each new content update, that popularity seems to only grow. Now available are three new costumes depicting the starter Pokémon Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. These lil guys can be obtained by clearing the Event Course with each. In the official trailer above, you can see how they look in-game; sadly, they do not evolve when you eat a mushroom. However, they are very adorable and the way they’re put to thematic use in the video is bit clever as well.
There are many costumes that can be unlocked in Super Mario Maker. Since the game’s release last fall, past updates have added Mario franchise favorites like Birdo and Princess Daisy. Other costume additions include Yamamura, the pigeon that provides course building tips in Super Mario Maker, Excitebike, Professor E. Gadd from Luigi’s Mansion, Mr. Saturn and Master Belch from Earthbound, and a Felyne from Monster Hunter. Rumor has it the sky pop from Super Mario Land is also on the way.
In other Super Mario Maker news, an unexpected update occurred last month when a bug forced Nintendo to take the game offline. It was restored sooner than expected and while Nintendo has remained quiet on the reason for the sudden maintenance, it has been all but confirmed that a powerful exploit was to blame.
