Kanye West Announced A Surreal Video Game About His Mother

February 11, 2016 by Carlos Chism

We’re not kidding.

Kanye West is an ambitious man. In addition to launching his latest album The Life of Pablo while biding time for his 2020 presidential run, he is also working on a video game. Only One: The Game is about his mother traveling to heaven, and shares its title with one of his older songs, which takes his late mother’s point of view after the birth of his daughter, North West.

The rap star decided to use his album release party/fashion show in New York as the platform to announce the game. After briefly talking about it, Kanye showed just a few moments of footage that, true to the song, shows his mother on what appears to be a Pegasus cavorting and soaring through clouds. While discussing the game, West said he took the idea to San Francisco and was turned down…a lot. Indie developer Darius Kazemi was at the event:

It seems he’s lived the experiences of many independent developers in the games industry.

If Yeezy is having trouble pitching his idea, he should probably consult his wife for advice. Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, a free-to-play casual game available on both iOS and Android, made over $43 million dollars in its first five months. The game challenges players to gain legions of fans by taking on acting and modeling jobs, along with – I’m not kidding – going on dates. Kim obviously knows what she’s doing, as she was involved with most of the decisions regarding the game’s content, features, and updates.

Kanye is most likely a little less interested in making a blockbuster freemium game, and a little more interested in making a heartfelt indie title about love and loss. Still, Kim may be able to help him get the project off the ground. Maybe he can get it on Steam Greenlight?

It’s been a busy day here at Gameranx, as in addition to Kanye’s announcement, we also learned that Destiny is getting an expansion this year and a sequel (possibly) next year. We also know the next Assassin’s Creed won’t be making an appearance this fall.
