Apparently while we were all scouring the internet for more information about Grand Theft Auto V, a little game called Saints Row the Third was released. I haven't seen much in terms of post-release content, but what I HAVE seen has scared the hell out of me; in a good way.
If you have a PlayStation 3 and are a resident of the US, Canada or Mexico, you'll be able to download Saints Row absolutely free of charge, just by registering your online pass. You'll have to do it before February 19th, but that gives you a long time to get it onto your download list for when you're finished with The Third.
I mean, the major complaint is going to be that this is limited to the US, Canada and Mexico, I can already hear the screams from the EU PlayStation blog. But it is a step in the right direction, rewarding players for buying new instead of punishing those that by used. I mean, they're still punishing people who buy used, but at least people who buy new aren't just getting "the game you just paid for."
And I'll finish on another observation…
Assassin's Creed on Revelations, Saints Row 2 for Saints Row the Third, perhaps we really are getting to a point where developers see the sense in giving away older games for free in relation to getting sales for their newer titles. Now if they just realize giving them away to people who haven't just paid for the latest game will get a whole new load of interest in a franchise well… everybody would be much happier.
