XCOM 2 debuted on February 4, 2016 on PC. In the short time since its release, it has already been challenging the popularity of Firaxis’ previous titles as well as many other popular games currently charting on Steam.
Firaxis has announced a collaboration with Valve for native Steam Controller support in XCOM 2. Anyone who owns one of the gamepads will see native integration in the game, without the need to manually configure the device. One of the benefits of using a Steam controller is the ability to configure it to your heart’s content.
The Steam Controller’s native integration into XCOM 2 allows the player to do the following things in the game:
- Use a different control scheme based on the in-game situation.
- Experience precise and responsive 1:1 camera controls using the touchpads in the Geoscape and the Tactical view.
- Instantly select your ability with the flexibility of the controller’s Touch Menus.
The studio says that the current implementation still needs work, and that they will be looking towards the community to provide feedback on how it currently works, and they expect players to make their own improvements to the currently existing configuration.
For a limited time, the Steam Controller comes bundled with a copy of XCOM 2 at a 40% discount. If you aren’t interested in a Steam Controller, you can always pick the game up at a 23% discount.
