PSP Transfer Program Announced … In Japan

November 11, 2011 by Addison Langford

The transfer program for transfering your old PSP games to your new PS Vita has been detailed in Japan.

Is it just me, or is Sony handling the PS Vita very poorly? Sony of Japan announced their PSP to PS Vita transfer program today, and if it’s anything like the one that Sony of America will launch, I feel we may have some angry gamers on our hands.

The way the program works is that you will have to download an app for your PSP called the, “UMD Passport”. You launch the program, insert a PSP game and the program will run it and make sure it’s a for real legal game. Once it’s done all that the program will link that game to your PSN account and you will then be able to download it on your shiny new PS Vita … for a price.

The prices announced translate to about $6.50 to $20, that seems quite pricey to me considering you have already purchased these games once already. The service won’t cover all games either, although it will cover a good deal. As of now the program will work for just over 200 different titles across 40 different publishers including Konami, Square Enix, Capcom and Sega.

The program will launch in Japan on December 6th, a full 11 days before the December 17th launch date. There has been no word on when the program will launch in America but I’m sure it will be before the system launches. While I’d love to get a PS Vita it just seems like Sony is handling it horribly. By not getting the Vita out in America before the holidays they’re basically handing Christmas to the 3DS. Then there’s the ridiculously over priced memory cards, now this whole transfer deal. I really hope Sony gets their act together soon, I’d really like to see the Vita do well.
