What Platforms Will Dead Island 2 Be Available On?

September 16, 2022 by Dennis Patrick

Dead Island was a massive zombie action RPG hit when it launched back in 2011. These were the days of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Overall, players took on the role of a character trapped on an island filled with undead zombie hordes. With the infection flooding the island, the once relaxation resort our protagonist was settled in soon became a prison. It was a big uphill battle as you sought a means to escape the island and return to your home.

The game was praised, and fans were left with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end. However, it was confirmed that a sequel was in the works back in 2014. Fans were given a new trailer that featured a colorful and vibrant city for Dead Island 2. Although, the development cycle for this game was rather bleak. It took years of work as the game quickly passed around to different studios. Fans were forced to wait patiently as publishers Deep Silver wasn’t throwing in the towel for this project.

Eventually, Dead Island 2 ended up at Dambuster Studios. These were the folks responsible for Homefront: The Revolution in 2016. With Deep Silver entrusting the studio with the IP, Dambuster Studios got to work and spent a standard four-year cycle as they prepared for another look into the future of the Dead Island franchise. Finally, during Gamescom 2022, we got the latest official look into Dead Island 2.

What Platforms Will Dead Island 2 Be Available On?

As we mentioned earlier, Dead Island initially came out back in 2011. That was for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. For those console platforms, you’re not going to see a sequel. But for those of you who might be worried that Dead Island 2 might be a current-generation console platform-only release, you can rest easy. Dead Island 2 might not release for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but it will come to last-generation and current-generation platforms.

That’s right. If you’re looking to dive into another installment of this zombie action RPG title, then you might have a platform readily available. After exchanging hands and landing in Dambuster Studios, the Dead Island sequel will be launching for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. That’s quite the lineup of platforms, so hopefully, you’re well covered for the game.

With that said, if you don’t have a readily available console platform for the game and your PC is not up to standards for this game, you still might be in luck. It looks like Google Stadia will also be a platform in which you can stream this game if you’re okay with cloud gaming. Of course, if you’re not all set, then you still have some time left to secure yourself a capable gaming PC or a supported console platform.

At the time of writing this article, Dead Island 2 is not slated to release until February 3, 2023. So you have until then to get yourself ready for the launch of this anticipated video game. In the meantime, you can check out the game trailer embedded down below.
