Dead Island was a massive zombie action RPG hit when it launched back in 2011. These were the days of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Overall, players took on the role of a character trapped on an island filled with undead zombie hordes. With the infection flooding the island, the once relaxation resort our protagonist was settled in soon became a prison. It was a big uphill battle as you sought a means to escape the island and return to your home.
The game was praised, and fans were left with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end. However, it was confirmed that a sequel was in the works back in 2014. Fans were given a new trailer that featured a colorful and vibrant city for Dead Island 2. Although, the development cycle for this game was rather bleak. It took years of work as the game quickly passed around to different studios. Fans were forced to wait patiently as publishers Deep Silver wasn’t throwing in the towel for this project.
Eventually, Dead Island 2 ended up at Dambuster Studios. These were the folks responsible for Homefront: The Revolution in 2016. With Deep Silver entrusting the studio with the IP, Dambuster Studios got to work and spent a standard four-year cycle as they prepared for another look into the future of the Dead Island franchise. Finally, during Gamescom 2022, we got the latest official look into Dead Island 2.
What’s The Story Premise In Dead Island 2?
The original Dead Island was centered around a small island. As a result, you had a rather small town and set pieces to explore. Meanwhile, the entire game was based on the urge to find supplies along with escaping the island. Unfortunately, details about this virus were rather limited, but there was hope that safety awaited off the island, but that is not the case.
From the very first trailer reveal of Dead Island 2, we were off the small island and in a lively city. While the game has exchanged hands a few times and now nearing its release, Dambuster Studios has kept up with the same lively city location. We know that the virus has spread out onto the world, and this installment will take players to the city of Los Angeles.
Details are still just a bit scarce on the narrative. We know that the virus has overtaken the city, and now you have undead hordes roaming the streets. You’ll have to carefully maneuver around the city of angels in hopes of avoiding becoming another meal for these zombies. However, it does appear that our protagonists in this game are also infected, but just how well they will resist the virus from mutating and overtaking the body remains to be seen.
What awaits you in this city that’s not an undead infected is a mystery right now. Although, it does look like the development team took quite a bit of time to craft up a city filled with interesting locations to visit. So as you wander down the streets and storefronts, it might be worth your while taking in the views, environmental stories, and potential gear to make your survival just a bit easier.
Currently, Dead Island 2 will be launching on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms on February 5, 2023. In the meantime, you can check out the game trailer featured down below.
