I'd like to admit something, right here, right now. I loved the original Assassin's Creed. It was perhaps the second game I bought on my shiny new PS3 and, for me, it did everything I expected from a next-gen game. The graphics were pretty as hell but, on top of that, the whole world was huge. It was like somebody had taken one of the later Sly Cooper games and made it real.
A lot of critics at the time weren't nearly as sure so it's surprising (and lucky) that Ubisoft continued to build the series and it became what it is today, a franchise that's sold 31 million copies.
Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, made the announcement that the series will continue next year although wasn't specific on whether it will be a console version of the game or not. It may just be the 3DS/Wii U formats that get to see a new entry or, perhaps, the long-awaited Assassin's Creed 3 will actually rear its head.
At this point, it's all speculation.
This comes after months of will-they-won't-they quotes from key Ubisoft players who just can't seem to make their mind up on their yearly schedule. For a fan such as me, well, I'm just fine with it.
