Check out the latest playthrough up on PlayStation Access: thirty minutes of the first mission in Firewatch on PS4. According to the video’s description, “Firewatch is an exploration puzzler from Campo Santo, a new studio whose members include the leads from Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season One.” It’s vague, to say the least, so you’re not going to find out anything about the game’s plot unless you actually watch the video.
What we know so far about the game (and it’s not much) is that the protagonist is a man named Henry wandering the Wyoming wilderness as a fire lookout. As the game progresses, strange things start happening to Henry and he starts to question his own reality. Campo Santo has been purposely quiet on specifics so as to not ruin the game; maybe don’t watch too much of this gameplay video.
The YouTube comments are enthusiastic, and rightfully so; the footage looks amazing. The art makes Firewatch look like the child of Fallout 4 and The Unfinished Swan, with a dash of Twin Peaks uncanniness. As previously reported, there has been some talk of how well-suited Firewatch is for virtual reality — it’s a first person POV game that only lasts about 5-6 hours — but Campo Santo has denied any VR plans for the time being.
Firewatch drops for PS4 and PC on February 9 and costs $20. PlayStation Plus members and players who pre-order the game on Steam can get it for the substantially discounted price of $18.
