Those playing the popular co-op zombie apocalypse fight-fest Back 4 Blood can get another look at the game’s new expansion today. Launching tomorrow, August 30 is the second expansion for the smash-hit co-op shooter. Named “Children of the Worm,” the new update will introduce a number of new story chapters as well as a brand new Cleaner character.
The latest launch trailer for Children of the Worm gives eager players a much closer look at “Prophet” Dan. The new arrival has been designed to complement the new narrative arc for the expansion, which follows the nefarious actions of the Children of the Worm cult members. What else would you do when the world has been ravaged by vicious, infected and hideously-mutated zombies known as the Ridden? Join a cult, of course.
Not to worry though, with Dan the gun-wielding Irish preacher at hand, players will be able to face off against both the Devil Worm-infected zombies and the Children of the Worm with way more confidence. It’s got to be that moustache that does it. Anyway, you can check out the new trailer for the upcoming expansion right here to take a look at what’s coming up in Back 4 Blood.
Dan has some pretty useful and unique combat abilities. Alongside boosting the team’s damage output and level of resistance, he’ll also provide knockback immunity plus a random buff or effect after reviving a team member. As detailed in the video, Children of the Worm will also introduce some new features to Back 4 Blood. Chief amongst these is the new playable Cleaner. however, players will also be able to update the looks of 8 of the existing cleaners thanks to some shiny new character skins. Also, there’ll be a number of new weapon skins included as part of the expansion, plus new accessories. To improve the game’s unique roguelike run system, new cards will be added to the game as part of the Children of the Worm content too.
The new expansion will be available as part of the Back 4 Blood Annual Pass, the Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition, or via a standalone purchase. However, as long as one player in your party owns the DLC then all members of the group will be able to join in on the action and the content that comes along with it. Which is a nice touch. The Children of the Worm storyline looks set to kick things up a notch in Back 4 Blood, which has seen solid levels of consistency in its popularity since its launch back in October last year. This new “Campaign Act 5” for the ongoing adventure should serve to boost the game’s popularity, and potentially its player base, even further.
Back 4 Blood is available now on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC. Children of the Worm launches tomorrow, August 30.
