WildStar is Coming to Steam: Destination Arcterra Update Revealed

February 1, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

WildStar is set for release on Steam with a brand new update.

The massively multiplayer science fiction-themed RPG WildStar is headed to Steam, NCSoft has revealed. The game will be released alongside a batch of new content in an update dubbed “Destination Arcterra.” While there’s no definitive release date for the game’s release just yet, the publisher revealed that Carbine Studios’ MMO will be out within the next few months.

In the new update, players will be able to explore a large new open area called Arcterra. It’s described (and showcased) as a frozen wasteland with ruins for players to explore and get lost in. There will, of course, be plenty of new enemies for players to fight and quests to complete. Additionally, the update will add a new type of boss encounter called “snowballing” that increase in difficulty as players kill more bosses. For instance, players will get the ball rolling, so to speak, by killing two-man bosses across the zone, which causes more difficult bosses to spawn that require the participation of more and more players.

The new zone also features a dynamic event that sees raid bosses spawning within the area. The two player factions will have to fight over them, looting the keys they drop. The faction with the most keys will unlock a dungeon and all members of that faction will have access to it for a 24 hour period. Players will want to explore it and earn its treasures.

The update also comes with a new instance called the Vault of Archon, which continues the on-going Nexus Saga storyline. It features cinematics and voice acting. There will also be a new 20-man raid called Redmoon Terror that will be made available in an update released shortly after the main release.

WildStar is currently free-to-play, so be sure to sign up and check it out if you haven’t already. I spoke to the developers of WildStar about the game’s future a few months ago.
