WWE and 2K Games have revealed they have signed a new ‘multi-year exclusive agreement’ to keep making WWE 2K wrestling games.
2K Games took over the WWE license for games after WWE’s previous partner, THQ, was shuttled in bankruptcy operations after 13 years of publishing their games. While the WWE license has passed around many game companies, including Acclaim and Technos, modern gamers associate them most with Yuke’s, who have been making WWE games since 2000. Today, Yuke’s works with 2K’s Visual Concepts to make these games.
For longtime WWE video game fans, this is definitely good news. It’s an assurance they’ll continue to get games developed by Yuke’s. While not everyone has been won over yet, many of these same fans are also happy with the changes Visual Concepts has brought to the franchise, as it becomes more and more like 2K Sports’ other key franchise, NBA 2K. Before 2K took over, for example, PC ports for the WWE games were seemingly unheard of.
2K CEO David Ismailer shared this statement:
2K’s partnership with WWE over the past three years has resulted in a successful and important addition to the Company’s portfolio of profitable franchises.
WWE executive VP for consumer products, Casey Collins also shared a message:
Our continued partnership ensures WWE remains at the forefront of global video game brands as we continue innovating and publishing our offerings on multiple platforms.
This deal also extends to the mobile WWE Super Card Game, which raises the question of what other games 2K Games could be making using the WWE license.
What games would you like to see 2K Games make with the WWE license? On my end, I’d like to see WWE finally have an official wrestling management simulator. Do you agree? Are there other games you’d like to see starring the WWE Superstars? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
