Final Fantasy XV 2016 Release Date Incoming, Nilfheim And Combat Details Revealed

January 31, 2016 by Ryan Parreno

Square Enix revealed that they are finally revealing a release date for Final Fantasy XV, and it’s definitely coming in 2016.

Square Enix revealed that they are finally revealing a release date for Final Fantasy XV, and it’s definitely coming in 2016.

The date will be revealed in an event called Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV, to be held in March 20 on Shrine Auditorium, LA.

In the meantime, Square Enix also revealed some huge details on combat and the antagonists, the Nilfheim army.

If Lucis relies on magic, Nilfheim relies heavily on mechanized technology. Their grunt soldiers are mostly nonhuman magitek robots, with humans controlling them from afar, as well as human superiors. Notable among these is Aranea Highwind, captain of the Niflheim Empire’s Third Army Corps 86th Airborne Unit and commonly referred to by her nickname, Dragoon.

While Iedolas Aldercapt is Nilfheim’s erstwhile commander, Chancellor Ardyn Izunia is the real person pulling the strings behind the scenes. The head of the military himself is General Glauca.

In terms of combat, we now know there’s another kind of magic aside from elemental. Ring magic is available only to Noctis, the bearer of the ring of Lucis, and it has to be unlocked in the course of the story. Of course, elemental magic is based on elements, like ice and fire, and requires you collect the energy to use it.

The above trailer shows off some of Noctis’ abilities. As you can see, he has an edge up on Solid Snake’s sneaking abilities with his teleport instakill move. Also demonstrated is a special combo, where Noctis orders a friend to use a move, before switching back to him. You can see improvements in graphics, camera angles, and UI. At the very end is the very flashy entrance of the Dragoon herself.

Final Fantasy XV will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
