According to the latest issue of Xbox World Magazine, super spy Rico Rodriguez will be toppling yet another dictator come 2012. The mag's rumor section states, "Our spies say devs Avalanche are hard at work [on a new Just Cause game] as we speak, and that it's set for release next year."
While there's been no official announcement from Square Enix, a sequel would hardly be surprising. Last year's Just Cause 2 sold well over two million copies, beloved by fans and critics alike for its over the top open-world action. What's more, Avalanche studio head Christofer Sundberg told Develop back in 2010 that the company was "absolutely interested in working with the Just Cause IP again."
Of course, the pegged 2012 launch date might be a bit optimistic. Just Cause 2 was orignally announced for release way back in 2008, only to suffer nearly two years of delays. If the game is really on track to hit stores sometime in the next fourteen months, we expect to hear an official reveal of the title sooner rather than later.
