Jame Gunn Gets Exciting News About Future in DC After Peacemaker Season 2

August 11, 2022 by Faith Lane

James Gunn has his hands full.

Exciting news for fans of James Gunn who is known for both his work with DC and Marvel. The future of James Gunn’s collaborations with the DC after season 2 of Peacemaker has gotten an exciting update that seems promising. Gunn was unfortunately and briefly fired from working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, however, Gunn wasn’t out long before Wb and DC were quick to enlist Gunn to write and direct the standalone sequel to Suicide Squad. James Gunn directed The Suicide Squad came out in 2021, but unfortunately it was a disappointment at the box office due to its COVID-19 day-in-date release. However, this did prompt WB to give a green light to a spinoff show called Peacemaker. This show is based on John Cena’s character from the movie. Gunn then wrote, directed, and produced the show, then it premiered on HBO Max earlier this year. Peacemaker broke viewership records and it was renewed for a second season and filming should begin in 2023.

Gunn confirmed shortly after Peacemaker aired that he was quote “very seriously” working on more projects within the DCEU. There are supposed to be a variety of projects in development and Gunn recently revealed that one has gained significant momentum and he had already begun working on writing up scripts for it. How exciting is that?

James Gunn has had his hands full with working on both Marvel and DC projects over the last couple of years and obviously with as many projects he has in the works, he will remain busy. One other spinoff show from Gunn’s The Suicide Squad movie was been reported to be in development and is based on villain Amanda Waller. Gunn hasn’t explicated confirmed if he is associated with the series or not. However, whichever show or movie is he working on, he has promised it will include some of the characters he introduced in Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad, so we will get a chance of seeing these characters cross over soon.

This new update is building much curiosity about what top-secret DCEU project Gunn could be working on. Right now the projects we know James Gunn is working on are Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 both for Marvel, even though these are close to wrapping up filming if they haven’t already.

About Peacemaker Season 1

Peacemaker is played by John Cena, and this character leads the ARGUS team on a mission to kill the Butterflies alien cow. It is an American superhero television series created by James Gunn for streaming service HBO Max, based on the DC Comics character Peacemaker. It is the first DC Extended Universe (AKA DCEU) television series and spinoff from the 2021 film The Suicide Squad.

Peacemaker season 1 is still available for streaming on HBO Max and season 2 will be added there hopefully later in 2023 we can all hope. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be in theaters on May 5, 2023.
