Final Fantasy XIV Online Creates New Starter Series

August 8, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

Newcomers can get a head start on the game.

It’s fair to say that the Final Fantasy franchise of games is pretty huge and as such, knowing where to jump in can be a bit overwhelming. For those thinking about playing Final Fantasy XIV Online for the first time, there’s now some help at hand. Square Enix has revealed that players new to the online MMORPG can get themselves up to speed quickly with a brand new video series.

The recently launched Final Fantasy XIV: Starter Guide Series is available today on the game’s YouTube channel and is designed to give new players a step-by-step introduction to the popular game’s immersive world and gameplay systems. It’s actually a pretty impressive way to encourage new players into a world of this scale. Final Fantasy XIV Online launched well over a decade ago and as such, has seen a number of expansions, additional activities and updates since its early days. Getting into such a well-established universe can be daunting for many new players, so the new series of videos should help to combat that.

The series kicks off today and you can watch the first episode, which takes players through the initial steps on their Final Fantasy XIV Online journey right here.

The video series will consist of seven episodes, each with a focus on different aspects of the playable experience. This will include a look at the world of Eorzea, the character creation process, map navigation and the different types of quests that players can try out during their adventures. The videos will follow a new player character known as Kaz, who will be mentored by Mayra and will demonstrate the player’s progress from beginner adventurer to a veritable hero in their own right.

Other notable aspects of Final Fantasy XIV Online that will be covered in the series include more complex gameplay mechanics involved in dungeon runs and boss battles, to name a few. For those who want to take a deep dive all in one go, the full series is available to watch on the Final Fantasy XIV Online YouTube channel now.

Those already deeply embedded in the world of Final Fantasy XIV Online will still be busy enjoying the recently added features from last month’s Patch 6.18 update. This saw the long-awaited inclusion of data centre travel, meaning that players can now visit Worlds in-game on different data centres, provided they’re in the same physically-located regions. This will serve to improve capacity, although inter-regional World travel is still unavailable.

Final Fantasy XIV Online is available now on PC. New players can try out the game for free, playing up to level 60 and through the base game plus its first expansion with no play time restrictions. So, now’s a good time to jump in and give it a try, especially if you’re planning to get caught up with the new video series.
