Infinity Ward “Emphasized” PC Experience With Modern Warfare 3

October 21, 2011 by Ian Miles Cheong

Modern Warfare 3 will be making a big splash on the PC, with dedicated features.

The Call of Duty series of games first began on the PC, eventually branching out to consoles—platforms where it has come to dominate in recent years, with much less emphasis on catering to PC players.

Modern Warfare 2 was a huge disappointment to PC gamers for its lack of dedicated servers and host of network issues.

Since then however, the game has been trying to get back to its roots—with the reinsertion of dedicated servers on Black Ops, to start with.

Infinity Ward spokesman Robert Bowling says that the development team for Modern Warfare 3 has “put a ton of emphasis” on the PC version of the game, perhaps in an attempt to downplay the fact that it won’t be anywhere as dedicated an experience as Battlefield 3 for the PC.

Bowling says that matchmaking, game lobbies, Steam integration, and dedicated servers will be present in the PC version of Modern Warfare 3, with the in-game server from Modern Warfare making a return.

“In addition, we’re supporting PC specific features that give you even more control over your experience like RCON, Custom game Saving, NoGFX / Audio Card Requirement on DS.exe, Voice Chat, and SSAO,” said Bowling in a community post.

The PC version of Modern Warfare 3 supports private match options, including the ability to run dedicated servers with full customizability over class restrictions and custom game mode creation, such as One In the Chamber, Gun Game, and Infected.

Much like the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the in-game server allows players to search for dedicated servers or run a private dedicated server. Games can be sorted and filtered through the host of options typically available to multiplayer games on the PC.

Modern Warfare 3 is set for a November 8 release on the PC, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360.
