According to new information, the upcoming and highly-anticipated GTA 6 was originally being developed on an as-yet unseen level of scale. As reported in Axios and spotted by Rockstar Intel, the game was reportedly being built originally with three main cities and four playable protagonists.
That’s according to apparent insider knowledge from Axios’ Stephen Totilo, who claims to have gathered the intel from a source, presumably at Rockstar. The source has reportedly explained that the game’s scale has now been pared down somewhat from the original plan. As reported a few days ago, we’ve already had a potential scoop on what to expect in GTA 6, with a report in Bloomberg detailing specifics on both the game’s primary location and one of its playable characters.
According to Bloomberg, GTA 6 will feature a playable female protagonist for the first time, who will reportedly be a Latina character. Accompanying her will be a counterpart playable character, to fit alongside the game’s rumoured ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ style narrative. Bloomberg also remarked upon the game’s expected location, with the action reportedly set to take place in a fictionalised version of Miami.
Obviously, this is a smaller scope than the previously suggested setting featuring three main cities, but as with all these kinds of rumours and supposed leaks, it’s best to keep an open mind. It could be that GTA 6 launches with more than one playable city space, but at this point, speculation is rife. While some players may be disappointed that things are supposedly going to be scaled down in GTA 6, others may not be too put off by the idea. It’ll be a step back from GTA V‘s three-character narrative, which wasn’t to everyone’s liking. Four protagonists may have been a step in the wrong direction, so perhaps scrapping the idea of ‘bigger is better’ is a smart move. Either way, we’ll just have to wait and see until we hear official news on the state of GTA 6 from Rockstar itself.
