It’s been revealed that FIFA 23 will be released on September 30. The date was revealed on the game’s official website, where pre-orders of FIFA 23 are now available. In addition to this, EA shared a new reveal trailer for what will be its final FIFA game before the franchise gets a name change after parting ways with FIFA, football’s governing body.
While it may be the last FIFA-titled game, FIFA 23 is also making some firsts, as it will feature women’s club football for the first time, as well as both World Cup tournaments for the men’s and women’s games. The UK’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League and France’s Division 1 Arkema will be coming to the game at launch, as will cross-play, although it’s not exactly full cross-play.
As explained on the FIFA 23 website, players will be able to make use of cross-play to play with or against friends on consoles of the same generation. This means that those playing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Google Stadia, and PC versions of FIFA 23 will be able to make use of cross-play features with one another. However, those on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will only be able to play matches against those on their own platform or the alternative last-gen console.
It’s also been revealed that the World Cup tournaments, namely the men’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 will be added to the game as post-launch content at no further cost. More information is expected to be revealed next week when EA is set to release details on FIFA 23’s Hypermotion2 technology. This promises to up the ante in terms of gameplay animations, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on this as details are revealed.
